Finding the right dough

A good empanada depends on its dough as much as on what it is filled in with. There are several different empanada dough recipes, and you might want to try a few until you find one that you like. Here we will share a couple of them with you.

First recipe

For this empanadas dough recipe you will need the following ingredients: 350 grams butter, 400 grams flour, 1/2 teaspoon salt and 300 cm3 of water. How to prepare the dough: mix all the ingredients and then knead the mixture until it looks even and soft. Then, let it rest for an hour or so. After that, stretch it and making it have a thickness of approximately 1/3 cm. Then use a round shaped element such as a cup or a dish with a diameter of between 12 and 18 cm to cut the empanadas dough.

Second recipe

This second empanada dough recipe requires: ½ cup water, 2 cups flour, 3 spoons soft butter, 1 spoon sugar, ½ spoon salt. How to prepare this dough: Put the flour on the table, forming a crown shape with it. Add the remaining ingredients to the middle of the crown and mix them. Knead it until is even and doesn’t stick to the fingers. Then, let it rest for between 1/2 and 1 hour. After that, stretch it until it reaches a thickness of about 1/3 cm, and cut in round shapes of between 12 and 18 centimeters of diameter.
